Last fall our Haaga Family Rotunda was the setting for Amanda and Tom’s beautiful wedding!

As the Rotunda does not have a designated “wedding ceremony” area, couples are welcome to choose any section of the room to set up the ceremony. Amanda and Tom chose to say their vows in between two of the exhibit cases at the end of an aisle marked by rose petals in shades of purple, blue and cream. Fabrics in similar hues cascaded from the mezzanine level to make a lovely backdrop.

As guests moved from the ceremony to cocktails and on into dinner, nothing could have prepared them for the sight of the Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Oschin Family Hall of African Mammals deck out in its finest!

Dinner tables of various shapes were enhanced with a massive array of flowers, manzanita trees and greenery provided by Romance, Etc (romance-etc.com).

Salads were pre-set by Tender Greens (www.tendergreensfood.com) prior to dinner being served so the guests would not have to wait to eat as the speeches were being delivered.

After dinner the dessert bar enticed guests with three wedding cakes from Vanilla Bake Shop ( www.vanillabakeshop.com) and snacks such as lemon and grasshopper bars and shortbread and jam treats!

Thanks to the fantastic lights brought in by A Rental Connection (arentalconnection.com), guests were able to dance the night away to the sounds of City Connection (cityconnectionent.com) under the twinkling bulbs.

A big thank you to Kim White at Two’s a Party (twosaparty.com) for all her hard work into making this a spectacular event! Also thank you to Lauren Avila for allowing us to use these amazing photos! To see more of her work please visit www.laurenavila.com.

One of the things we love about our brides here at the Natural History Museum is the unique individualism of each and every one. Back in November we were wowed one again by the vintage-style wedding of Kathy and Guiliano.

Kathy’s dress was delicate and full of lace, adding to the antique look of the event. The fact that the weather was not cooperative actually added to the old time feel of the photos. The outdoor shots were taken in the Exposition Rose Garden, adjacent to the Natural History Museum.

The ceremony was in our elegant Haaga Family Rotunda. Prior to the ceremony the groom was so nervous and it was refreshing to see him relaxed and back to his old self once the vows were completed!

And who could forget the couple’s daughter Sophia who was front and center for all the excitement!

And of course, what is a wedding at the Natural History Museum without a photo in front of the bison in the North American Mammal Hall?

A big thank you to Leah and Rob of Vis Photography. The vintage-style photos are truly beautiful. They also do amazing non-vintage work. If you would like to take a look, please visit http://visphotography.com/. They can be reached at leah@visphotography.com or at 951-295-2910.

In December the Natural History Museum was very busy with weddings! Towards the end of the month we were happy to congratulate Leah and Alan, who were married in the Haaga Family Rotunda.

Whimsical centerpieces along with colored uplights really brought a sense of fun to our North American Mammal Hall where guests danced the night away under the watchful eyes of the bison!

And no wedding would be complete without a photo shoot in the adjacent Exposition Park Rose Garden! The Haaga Family Rotunda can be seen in the background of this fun shot! On your wedding day at NHM we encourage you to advantage of all the wonderful areas for photo ops! All the amazing photos on this page were courtesy of James Johnson. You can see more of his work at www.jamesjohnsonphotography.com

Their wedding planner Tobey Dodge (www.tobeydodge.com) was so thorough and thoughtful, no stone was left unturned! Our good friend Mark Rivera from TGIS Catering (www.tgiscatering.com/) once again provided an amazing dinner and helped coordinate the rentals from Signature Party Rentals (www.signatureparty.com)
Thank you to Leah and Alan and their families (Hi Denny!) for choosing to spend this very special day at the Natural History Museum. We enjoyed meeting you all and hope you come back to visit! Here’s to a long life of happiness for the Ticklers!

On July 3rd the Natural History Museum was the location for the celebration of Lauren and Mike’s Wedding! Their ceremony was held in the Exposition Park Rose Garden, just a short walk away from the Natural History Museum.

Cocktails were held in the Grand Foyer and dinner and dancing took place under the watchful eye of an African elephant in the African Mammal Hall.

The happy couple also made sure to take advantage of the rest of the museum for some amazing photo ops.
The gem hall shots were too funny!

This wedding would not have been the same without the careful eye of event producer Nathaniel Neubauer and manager Jenny Dennis, both of Contemporary Catering (http://contemporary-catering.com/index.php).
Lee Dyson from Hey Mr DJ (http://www.heymisterdj.com/indexb2.htm) provided both ceremony and reception music, Jackie Combs (http://www.jackiecombsfloraldesign.com/) designed the beautiful florals for the evening, the cake came from Joleen Medina at A Sweet Design (http://asweetdesign.info/) and the rentals were handled by Rob Kuehn and our friends over at Town and Country Rentals (http://townandcountryeventrentals.com/).
And please check out the website of Alex Neumann at http://www.alexneumann.com/. He is the man behind these stunning photos! I still can’t figure out how he made our rainforest look so big!
And of course a huge thank you to Lauren, Mike and their families for choosing to spend their special day at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County! We here at the Natural History Museum were fortunate enought to have Alix and Shawn celebrate their wedding here! This is easily one of the most creative couples we have ever encountered. They created everything from the invitations to the dress. Alix even found the time to make stuffed animal place cards/gifts for her guests! Their suggested attire for the evening was “Vintage” and their guests seemed to have a ball, as there were clothes from every time period imaginable!

They chose to have the ceremony in the African Mammal Hall, dinner in the Rotunda and dancing in the Fin Whale Passage. I would love nothing more than to post every single picture up here, but Alix has a great blog where she has these photos posted (http://cuteanddelicious.com/2011/05/the-wedding-part-2/) so I will encourage you to head over that way and check them out!

The photographer for the evening was from Photo Pink and you can take a look at their work at http://www.photopinknyc.com/.

The Rotunda served as a dramatic backdrop for the wedding of Jill and Erez here at NHM back in January! This couple was determined to show their guests a good time and they did not disappoint!

After the ceremony, cocktails were served in the Grand Foyer where the guests drank martinis from the trunk of an ice-sculpted mammoth as they waited for dinner in the African Mammal Hall to be served. Our dueling dinos have been the centerpiece of many a cocktail hour here at the museum and seldom fail to impress!

As guests took their seats for an amazing dinner provided by John Kinderman and his team at About Thyme Catering (http://aboutthymela.com/), they were greeted by wooden jungle animals that the couple purchased from our own museum gift shop. They even had special gift tags ordered with the couple’s name and wedding date!

This was such a beautiful wedding- no detail was overlooked. Everything from the flowers to the food was simply stunning, it was almost hard to believe that this was our African mammal hall!
These amazing photos were taken by Joel Eckman Maus at EMP Studio Photographer (http://www.studioemp.com/), rentals were provided by Town and Country Rentals(www.townandcountryeventrentals.com), Ixora Floral Studio (www.ixoraflorist.com) designed the gorgeous floral arrangements and the chuppa that was used in the ceremony was provided by Dina at I Love Chuppas (www.ilovechuppas.com). To check out the favors or other gift from our museum gift shop, please visit www.enssc.com/default.aspx?store=301 or stop by the museum!

Congratulations Jill and Erez! Thank you for choosing to spend your special day with us here amongst the dinos and mammals! We hope to see you both around the museum!

We were so excited to see Jed and Jillian’s wedding day roll around!

For about a year now we have been teased with their visions of twinkling lights and hay bales and we finally got a chance to see it! No detail was left to chance from the second-hand antique dishes to the mason jar glasses and vases, these two went all out to turn our North American Mammal Hall into a country chic wedding!

A fantastic BBQ dinner with all the trimmings was provided by Lucille’s (http://lucillesbbq.com/) and their cake was made by Phoenix Bakery(http://phoenixbakeryinc.com/). Flowers were by My Secret Garden (http://www.mysecretgardenla.com/#/home) and Bill Cowan from Host Pros (http://www.hostprosla.com/) supplied the bartenders. And of course, the day would not have been complete without the amazing photography of Mark Brooke Photographers and the event planner that pulled everything together, Lauren Hovey!

April and Earth celebrated their wedding day here back in September and I don’t know if anyone noticed, but we didn’t post any photos of the cake. The reason is because it was being filmed for TLC’s “Fabulous Cakes” show!
We have finally gotten the airdate “Fabulous Cakes”, TLC, Monday December 13 at 10:00 pm. TV-PG (L)
Set your DVRs!
The above photo was taken by the amazing Jen O’ Sullivan. Check out more of her work at http://jenosullivan.com.

On Sunday September 26, Earth and April held the first wedding reception in the newly restored Rotunda!

The ceremony was held in the grand foyer and guests sipped on mint iced tea and hibiscus lemonade as they took their seats around the dueling dinos. The wedding party entered through the African Mammal Hall directly towards the guests for a very dramatic entrance.

After the ceremony, everyone headed over to the Rotunda to celebrate the occasion! Instead of a traditional sit down dinner, the couple opted for heavy appetizers both passed and buffet style. White leather couches and ottomans were spread out in between the marble columns giving guests a chance to sit and chat. In addition, extra seated and standing cocktail tables were spread throughout the room, including some placed on the mezzanine level. The happy couple also took full advantage of our beautiful portico on the east entrance! As you can see it makes a beautiful backdrop for photos, and there is room on the stairs to fit the whole family!

All of the amazing photos you see here were shot by Jen O’Sullivan and her team. To see more of her work, please visit http://jenosullivan.com/.
In addition, the mouth-watering food was prepared and served by John Kinderman and his team at About Thyme Catering (www.aboutthymela.com), the gorgeous lounge furniture and lines were from Town and Country Rentals (http://townandcountryeventrentals.com/), the flowers were from The Hidden Garden (http://www.hiddengardenflowers.com/), the entertainment was provided by Barry Lamster (www.barrylamster.com) and Arielle Haze, the ”LA Wedding Woman” (www.laweddingwoman.com) officiated the service. The mouth-watering cake was constructed by Kimberly Bailey from the Butter End Cakery (http://thebutterendcakery.com/) and will be featured on an upcoming episode of TLC’ Fabulous Cakes. We will post the air date as soon as we know it!

So a big thank you to April, Earth and all their friends and family who came out to celebrate! It was an honor to be a part of your wedding and we wish you health and happiness and always remember,
