Vintage Chic!

Rose Garden B+W

One of the things we love about our brides here at the Natural History Museum is the unique individualism of each and every one. Back in November we were wowed one again by the vintage-style wedding of Kathy and Guiliano.

Kathy’s dress was delicate and full of lace, adding to the antique look of the event. The fact that the weather was not cooperative actually added to the old time feel of the photos. The outdoor shots were taken in the Exposition Rose Garden, adjacent to the Natural History Museum.

The ceremony was in our elegant Haaga Family Rotunda. Prior to the ceremony the groom was so nervous and it was refreshing to see him relaxed and back to his old self once the vows were completed!

And who could forget the couple’s daughter Sophia who was front and center for all the excitement!

Bison

And of course, what is a wedding at the Natural History Museum without a photo in front of the bison in the North American Mammal Hall?

A big thank you to Leah and Rob of Vis Photography. The vintage-style photos are truly beautiful. They also do amazing non-vintage work. If you would like to take a look, please visit http://visphotography.com/. They can be reached at leah@visphotography.com or at 951-295-2910.

Sara and Matt’s East Garden Ceremony

saramatt_13

We are so lucky to have such a beautiful outdoor area for rent here at the Natural History Museum. With several different types of gardens, we will surely be able to help you find the perfect ceremony location!

saramatt_04

Sara and Matt were one of the first couples to take advantage of this new area. They chose to use the east garden for their ceremony, which was a perfect size to seat 120 guests.

Sara, being walked down the aisle by her mother, made a dramatic entrance from our Rotunda and down the staircase which was the original entrance to the museum in 1913.

With the Exposition Park Rose Garden as a beautiful backdrop, the ceremony was only the first of what is sure to be a hot spot for NHM weddings!

After the ceremony, guests retreated to the ever-popular the Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Oschin Family Hall of African Mammals for dinner against the backdrop of the African savannah.

Quaker Ceremony, Shuffleboard and a Fabulous Green Dress

Image

One of the things I love about weddings here at the Natural History Museum is how diverse they are. Even within the same faith I find that couples always manage to throw in their own personal touches to really make the ceremony their own. This time I was fortunate enough to get to see my first Quaker ceremony.

Image

The ceremony took place in the Rotunda. JJ and Nathalie were seated on chairs adorned with greenery while family and friends faced them in a semi circle. After a period of reflective silence guests would periodically stand to give a blessing to the couple, or pass along well wishes or even share a memory.

ImageAfter the ceremony guests headed outside to sample of of the most unique cocktail menus I’ve seen in quite some time. Aside from the signature drinks, there were craft sodas such as ginger, cream and two kinds of root beer.

Tables and bar stools were set up along with the bar on the portico. Guests also took advantage of the gorgeous weather to take some time for a stroll through our newly opened gardens.

Once the cocktail hour was over guests were ushered through the dinosaur hall and into the Africam Mammal hall for dinner by Heirloom LA and dancing to music provided by DJ Eva Kim.

ImageImagePlace cards not only showed how to make a shadow puppet of the table animal, it listed the name in French. Animal masks were provided so guests could blend in with the surroundings and opera glasses were on hand just in case someone wanted to get a closer view of the local wildlife!

Image

Tables were set the length of the room and were adorned with a variety of fresh green foliage put together by Heather Reeves from Holly Flora. Blub lights strung the width of the room gave the area a festive feel.

Image

Whether it was dancing or shuffleboard, everyone had a great time under the watchful eye of the African elephant!
